"This couples retreat has given us so many tools to work through different issues. Now we can identify our core needs. I love how there are steps we can follow and we know how to do them when we are by ourselves." J.L. -previous attendant

The Couples Retreat in San Antonio Covers

1-Establishing a Covenant Foundation:
The more couples approach their marriage as a long-term commitment, the more emotional safety they'll experience. In addition, staying in a relationship long-term allows you to become refined as a person, which makes you a better partner.
2-Owning Our Brokenness:
We all bring baggage into our marriage from our upbringing because none of us had perfect childhoods. Then, our shortcomings interact with our partner's, creating vicious cycles. Understanding these cycles and owning our part is critical.
3-Learning to Share Power:
As the old adage goes, "When a couple gets married two become one. Problems begin when they try to decide which one." Very few marriages have a climate where both partners feel like equals where both of their voices matter on all topics. Developing that climate is important.
4-Developing Emotional Attachment:
Couples start out as close friends yet tend to lose that connection through years of marriage. When the friendship falls apart, physical intimacy falls apart too. Learning how to stay emotionally close and connected to your spouse is vital.
5-Cultivating Sexual Fireworks:
Sexual intimacy is one of the top things that should set marriage apart from other relationships. However, many marriages are sexually starved for a variety of reasons. Learning how to work through these issues in a way that is mutually enjoyable for both partners is essential.
6-Staying in Love:
When a couple is in love it makes them more kind, generous, and gracious to one another. However, the opposite is also true. When a couple doesn't feel in love they become more irritable, withholding, and detached. Therefore, helping couples fall back in love is key to maintaining a healthy relationship.
"Spot on content. Very relevant with tools to apply to my marriage. Good mix of exercises. So much value for the money and time. Thank you!" M.W. -previous attendant

I'm Dawn Marotta, my husband Mike and I lead the marriage retreat in San Antonio. I'm no stranger to family, hard work, and culture. My love of helping others was the catalyst to becoming a Registered Nurse in 2008.  Among my achievements, I'm most proud of my missionary work in Senegal Africa. I was married in 2000 to my wonderful husband Mike and we have two beautiful boys 20 and 10. Marriage at such a young age came with many difficulties. These difficulties have taught me invaluable lessons I want to pass onto you!

I'm Mike Marotta and I co-lead the marriage retreat in San Antonio with my wife Dawn. I have served with the San Antonio Police Department for the last 15 years and most recently on the mental health unit. My passion for serving has led to my latest  role in developing a wellness and resiliency program for officers. I have a love for teaching and talking to people. My most important love however is for my wife of 21 years. Married at the age of 19 created many hardships as you might imagine. At the end of 2019 my marriage experienced a huge shift which led us on a path of discovery. I hope to bring renewal and healing to your relationship.
