Marriage Counseling in Boulder, CO
With the divorce rate hovering around 50% for all marriages, it's evident people struggle having successful relationships. Some of the top struggles for couples include wounds from their past sabotaging their relationship, busy schedules leaving no room to cultivate their marriage, unresolved conflicts and resentments, and not effectively meeting one another's needs. As you can see, there can be a lot to cover in marriage counseling to help couples experience healing and hope.
What happens during marriage counseling?
The first phase of couples counseling with Dr. Wyatt is all about healing resentments. Couples will learn Dr. Wyatt's leading conflict resolution tool as he guides them step by step through each resentment. Resentments are like rocks in the soil and must be dug out before new seeds of growth can be planted. Also, nothing goes well in a marriage when there are active resentments. It's hard to have sex or go on dates with someone you resent! Once all the resentments in the relationship have been addressed it's time for phase two. Phase two includes going through each chapter of his Total Marriage Refresh book to learn and practice all the tools and strategies covered, such as how to resolve conflicts, how to communicate effectively, and how to share power on decisions. Phase three includes learning the love bucket tool so you both get trained on how to become amazing partners so you can fall back in love and stay in love.
How much does couples therapy cost?
Dr. Wyatt has two appointment options, 45 minutes ($200) or 1.5 hours ($400). Dr. Wyatt is licensed in Colorado but not on any insurance panels. Therefore, if you'd like to use insurance, you'd pay him full fee at the time of service then he would provide a paid receipt for you to submit to your insurance company. Most insurance companies reimburse around 50% when seeing someone out of network but you would need to verify this with your insurance company. You also may be able to pay for services using a health savings account (HSA) or a flex spending account. It typically takes around 6 months of weekly marriage counseling for couples to untangle their knots and create new normals. However, some couples only require 3-4 months if they are really motivated and teachable while others may need 1-2 years.
